Land Acknowledgement

At Upstate Down, we recognize that the land on which we live, work, and steward our homes is part of the unceded territory of the Mohican and Munsee Lenape peoples. These nations cared for this land for countless generations before their forced removal, and their deep relationship to this place continues to this day.

We honor their history, resilience, and living presence. We acknowledge the harms of colonization—past and ongoing—including how land has been taken, divided, and commodified in ways that serve profit over community and reciprocity. In our work, we hold this truth with humility and a commitment to move in ways that foster respect, preservation, and connection to place.

We understand that acknowledgment without action is hollow. As we participate in the business of real estate, we commit to learning from the original stewards of this land, supporting Indigenous voices, and seeking ways for our work to contribute to healing, not harm.

This acknowledgment is a living statement—one that will evolve as we continue to listen, learn, and deepen our responsibility to the land and all those connected to it.
